Enviromental and Community Efforts

  • Wildlife
  • Grounds
  • Recycling
  • Energy
  • Sustainability

We are surrounded by protected woodland and have a fenced pond full of wildlife. The pond has recently undergone a re-wilding project where the natural habitats are left to thrive. There are bird boxes around the site to encourage wildlife and as a consequence, we enforce a noise curfew to reduce the disturbance to nature. We’ve planted many trees over the years to add to the natural environment and to allow wildlife to thrive.

The site grounds are maintained all year and under-go rejuvenation processes over the winter. This is in order to keep the grass luscious and green for the summer season to ensure our campers have the best pitches possible. It has been said you could play 18 holes of golf on our grass!

A strict rubbish collection and disposal system is in place to ensure there is no litter left polluting the National Park. We recycle all types of rubbish to ensure we are maximising our efforts towards the environment. You will find labels on each type of bin in our waste area. We take pride in where we live and so there is zero tolerance to littering.

By being energy conscious here at Bramley Park Camping we minimise our electricity usage by using solar lights. We have plans to move entirely to self-sufficient energy sources in the future but as of now, our facilities draw the bare minimum in order to operate efficiently.

Future plans involve adding various water butts around the site to collect rain water that our guests are free to use for things such as pet drinking water. Additionally, we will add a composting bin for food waste that is used to create flower beds.

Our Story

The Idea (2017)

Our passion for the outdoors, nature and wildlife started way before Bramley Park Camping. These passions lead to us embarking on a long winded adventure around the world in 2017, starting in Europe and eventually making our way over to Australia and Asia with various stops in-between. Camping was our primary form of accommodation for most of the way across our voyage. We fell in love with the sense freedom camping allows and the blissful feeling of being lost in nature. This lead to us sharing a vision that one day, we could adopt the best parts of campsites we’d seen across our trip and build our own version here in the UK. The main focus for us was to replicate the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity, which is why we chose the location we are in today… the South Downs National Park.

Research (2019)

At this stage we knew what we wanted to create, but had little idea where to start. After reaching out to others who had built their own sites across the UK we were overwhelmed with the friendly and helpful responses. One reoccurring piece of advice that we held with high importance was to “keep it simple”… and so we did. We started with the basics, find a location with views so good it will sell itself. After intensive research we settled on our spot, one at the foot of the South Downs offering a secluded getaway, yet still within walking distance to an abundance of amenities and even public transport. We were both studying at University at this time and had heard about an entrepreneur grant available to students at both of our respective Universities. We powered on creating our business plan, and after a long process of pitching to the Bank of Santander we both won and were granted a portion of our start-up cost.

The Glamping Show (2020)

Now we knew where we were setting up camp, it was time to look into what kind of accommodation we wanted to offer. We of course knew that camping will be the main staple, with our own element of added freedom by not having set pitches but instead a space so large that no one is on top of one another. Further to this, we wanted to incorporate another element of accommodation for those not so keen on being a little ‘wild’. After attending The Glamping Show we had a good idea of the type of Glamping experience we wanted to offer. We knew we could match the outstanding views to a cosy, luxurious and comfortable setting with our fabulous bell tents.

2021 Preparation

The next step was to purchase our first set of facilities in preparation for launch. We remembered to “keep it simple” and so we started with the basics. A good set of flushing toilets, hot indoor showers, a washing up area, a drinking water point and a waste rubbish section… everything you need for a relaxing trip. The preparation went way beyond just purchasing facilities, we developed our first website, online presence and marketing plan to make sure we got some bookings! Still to this day, there is no other campsite that can offer the views we have here at Bramley Park Camping.

2021 Season

Fast forward to the 1st of July 2021 and its opening day. Everything was in place ready and the front gates were first opened with pride. Over the course of the season, our expectations were blown out of the water with thousands and thousands of campers and glampers flooding in from all over the country. We had some teething issues, as you’d expect, but our passion, resilience and persistent commitment to creating the best camping experience possible made sure we overcame barriers with flying colours. The best part of the whole experience was meeting and conversing with all kinds of people from all walks of life. The greatest feeling of achievement and purpose came from seeing people making memories and enjoying a place we built in an area we grew up in and love. Many campers returned two, three and even four times over the season. We ended the season on a high, receiving feedback and reviews that were flawless across the board.

2022 Preparation

A successful season in 2021 allowed us to get creative in preparation for next year. We knew the campsite was viable and that was evident from the response we had received. Following this, we wanted to push it one step further and decided to go for planning permission in order to open for a longer season (March – October). Upgrades include, toilets of better quality, a new upgraded shower block, and an upgraded entrance track for those wetter weekends. The website underwent a thorough update and re-design in order to optimize the user experience and to improve the efficiency of the booking process. We attended the Farm Business Innovation event and met our third party partners PitchUp and Campsites.co.uk who gave us good feedback on the performance of our site. We made contacts in the realm of bike hire and booking management which will help us grow and come back even better in 2022.

2022 Season

WHAT A SEASON! Our first full length season with record breaking weather. We had more campers, more glampers and plenty more five star reviews. This season went much more smoothly having got to grips with what it’s like running a campsite and it was great to see so many familiar faces returning from the 2021 season. Heat wave after heat wave made for the perfect camping setting, well… only for those who could handle it. We launched our pizza wagon, but instead of using frozen dough and cheap ingredients, we took the time to make this the best pizza we could. We undertook an intense Neapolitan training course, learning how to use high quality fresh dough and make the pizza ourselves. Thousands of pizzas later and our campers couldn’t get enough! We also added another little luxury, great coffee in the morning from a mobile coffee wagon, this was a great addition and loved by many. Overall, 2022 proved that Bramley Park Camping is a special place, not just for us, but for those who enjoy being immersed in the beautiful South Downs.

2023 Preparation

After a short break it was time for renovation, our mission is to catch up with the most established sites of our genre as quickly as possible. We have worked tirelessly over the winter months renovating our facilities to get them up to scratch for opening. We have invested into a whole new catering unit that will continue to serve our fresh Neapolitan pizza but also new menu additions! The catering unit will not only just serve coffee in the morning anymore, BREAKFAST, yes you will be able to grab a bacon roll, sausage roll or vegan option when you wake up. A new reception office & shop will be launched in 2023, providing a nicer check-in experience and convenient essential camping items for sale. We are looking forward to opening day!

2023 Season

A very wet and boggy April slowed us down to begin with. Once the sun came out we were well on our way to what became one of our favourite camping seasons to date. Campers were greeted by our new log cabin reception stocking ice creams, drinks and camping essentials. Our improved catering station was popular but not just for the freshest of Neapolitan pizza. Breakfast was introduced and we absolutely loved chatting to all our guests in the morning over a coffee and a bacon roll. The latter part of the season brought better weather and we had some record breaking weekends. It was another season solidifying the fact that Bramley Park Camping is a great place to be, so we say thank you to everyone that came and made it the campsite it is.

2024 Preparation

Our returning campers will know, we’re always up to something… and over the 2023 season we’d been taking notes and speaking to our lovely guests to see how we can improve further for the 2024 season. We’ve been working on plans to have an outdoor seated dining area by our catering station that will create a nice social chill out spot. Our washing up station will see a cover go over the top, it turns out people didn’t like washing up in the rain! The reception will see some minor tweaks to the inside.
